FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE BALLARAT DAYLESFORD

Personalised Nutrition, Gene-Based Health Coaching & IFS Counselling to Help You Feel Your Best

Get expert guidance on nutrition, genetics, and mental health, so you can take control of your well-being and find balance in your body and mind.

Are you navigating fatigue, inflammation, autoimmune symptoms, or mental health challenges and wondering how it all connects? Or perhaps you’re seeking clarity on how your emotional wellbeing, daily habits, and personal biology shape your health? If so, you’re in the right place.

I take a person-centred, trauma-informed, and neuroaffirming approach to health care — because your story, experiences, and environment matter just as much as your physiology. Together, we’ll explore how your lifestyle, stress responses, nutrition, and emotional health interact with your body’s unique systems.

While your genetics can offer valuable clues, they don’t define your destiny. Through supportive, collaborative consultations, I offer tailored nutrition and lifestyle approaches, nervous system regulation strategies, and Internal Family Systems counselling to help you understand the deeper connections between mind, body, and health. Whether you’re managing autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue, digestive concerns, or mental health struggles, I’m here to help you uncover practical, sustainable ways to feel more in control of your health and wellbeing.

MY PROCESS

How I Work With Nutrition & Functional Medicine Clients

  • This is a comprehensive session designed to understand your full health picture.
During your initial consult, I will:

    • review any blood tests, medical reports, or previous functional testing (you can also send these to me before the appointment for review)

    • take an in-depth symptom history and timeline

    • assess patterns across systems (gut, hormones, immune, mitochondrial, neurological, etc.)

    • identify likely drivers of your symptoms

    • discuss which functional tests (if any) are clinically relevant (e.g., Hair Mineral Analysis, Organic Acids Test, microbiome testing, hormonal testing, etc.)

    Outcome:
You will leave with a clear understanding of possible underlying issues and the recommended next steps in testing.

    Booking expectations:
Most clients will need additional testing before we can proceed to treatment.
Your next appointment is typically scheduled once test results have been received or are in progress.

  • During this stage, functional tests are completed and results are returned.
You may also be asked to track symptoms, complete questionnaires, or gather additional data.

No appointments are usually needed during this period unless something changes or you require support.

  • Once all relevant results are available, we meet for a detailed review session. This is where I:

    • explain all test findings in a clear, accessible way

    • integrate testing with symptoms and case history

    • map out the physiological mechanisms behind your presentation

    • begin constructing a personalised, staged treatment plan

    • discuss any further testing that may be needed (now or later)

    • outline the expected timelines for improvement

    Outcome:
You leave with a structured plan tailored to your genetics, physiology, symptoms, and test findings.

  • Most clients require at least 6–9 months of focused treatment, especially for:

    • gut dysbiosis

    • mitochondrial dysfunction

    • hormonal dysregulation

    • immune issues

    • histamine or mast cell disorders

    • methylation and genetic variations

    • chronic stress or trauma-related physiology

During this time, I recommend regular check-ins every 4–6 weeks.

    Types of check-ins:

    • 30-minute sessions for early-phase treatment updates or if symptoms shift

    • 15-minute sessions for ongoing protocol adjustments, progress tracking, or transitioning into new stages of treatment

These sessions ensure your protocol remains safe, effective, and tailored to your progress.

    Booking expectations:
To stay on track, we will book the next check-in at the end of each appointment.
This avoids delays, allows us to monitor progress consistently, and ensures the best outcomes.

  • Many clients continue working with me for up to two years, particularly for:

    • complex gut issues

    • autoimmune or chronic inflammation

    • MCAS

    • significant nervous system dysregulation

    • long-term genetic or metabolic vulnerabilities

    • trauma-related physiology needing both nutritional and therapeutic support

After the initial intensive phase, appointments usually become less frequent (every 8–12 weeks), unless:

    • your protocol changes

    • you transition to a new stage of treatment

    • we uncover a new underlying issue

    • life stressors flare symptoms

    • additional testing becomes appropriate

  • Because I’m also an IFS-trained counsellor, you may choose to integrate IFS or therapeutic work alongside nutritional treatment. This can be especially helpful for clients with:

    • complex trauma

    • stress-related physiological issues

    • chronic illness that interacts with emotional patterns

    • nervous system dysregulation

    • body-based anxiety or shutdown responses

These sessions are offered separately and can be added at any stage.

How I Work With IFS & Therapeutic Clients

  • This first session gives us the space to get to know each other in a meaningful way.
    During this appointment, we will:

    • explore what has brought you here

    • discuss your current concerns, challenges, and emotional landscape

    • begin mapping the broad contours of your internal system

    • identify any urgent needs or areas requiring immediate support

    • establish the foundations of trust, clarity, and collaboration

IFS work relies on a strong therapeutic alliance.
This longer first session ensures you feel seen, understood, and safe before we begin deeper work.

  • (60-minute sessions)

In the first 3–4 appointments, we move slowly and intentionally.
    This is where I:

    • get to know the different parts of your internal system

    • learn how your protectors show up and what they’re trying to manage

    • understand your nervous system patterns

    • build the therapeutic alliance your system needs to feel safe

    • develop a shared language and map of your inner world

    These early sessions are essential.
They give your parts time to learn that they can trust me, trust the process, and trust that I can hold them gently when big emotions arise.

This is not a phase to rush — it is the foundation that allows the deeper work to unfold safely.

  • (Ongoing 60-minute sessions)

Once your system feels grounded and understood, we can begin deeper IFS processes, including:

    • direct part-to-Self connection

    • witnessing exiles

    • unblending from protectors

    • accessing core burdens

    • unburdening painful beliefs, emotional wounds, or body-held memories

    • integrating new feelings of clarity, safety, and agency

This is the heart of the work.
It’s also where trust and therapeutic presence matter most — your system needs to know I can hold you fully, especially when vulnerable or young parts are ready to be seen.

IFS is not a rapid technique.
It is deep, relational, and respectful of your psyche’s natural pace.

Most clients begin unburdening work around session 4 or 5 — sometimes earlier, sometimes later — depending on what their system needs.

  • (Weekly or fortnightly 60-minute sessions — adjustable as needed)

After unburdenings or deeper work, we move into a supportive integration phase where we:

    • stabilise new internal patterns

    • help protectors shift into new roles

    • support your nervous system to adjust

    • strengthen your connection with Self

    • reinforce emotional clarity and inner leadership

This phase is just as important as the deep work itself.

Clients commonly continue therapy for 6–18 months, depending on:

    • the complexity of their trauma history

    • how many parts are seeking attention

    • their life stability and external stressors

    • personal goals for healing and growth

Some clients stay longer, not because they “need therapy” but because they find the internal work deeply supportive, empowering, and transformative.

  • Once major unburdenings have occurred and your system feels settled, we may:

    • reduce session frequency

    • move to monthly or occasional check-ins

    • shift focus toward integration, Self-leadership, and life direction

This phase is flexible and tailored to your needs.

  • IFS is relational, not mechanical. The work unfolds through collaboration, trust, and shared intention. For the process to be safe and transformative, we both hold an important role.

    My commitment to you:

    • to offer a safe, calm, grounded presence

    • to honour the pace set by your system and never push you into material you’re not ready for

    • to support your nervous system as much as your mind

    • to meet every part of you with compassion, curiosity, and patience

    • to hold the space fully when deep unburdenings arise

    What I ask of you:

    • show up with openness and curiosity

    • allow the process to unfold at its natural pace

    • attend sessions consistently, ideally weekly or fortnightly

    • protect space for integration after deeper sessions

    • communicate with me about what’s arising between appointments

Deep therapeutic change happens when there is trust, safety, and time.
Your system deserves to be met gently and steadily — and IFS works best when we walk this path together with intention.
